BIOGRAPHY: Community service and problem solving have been the central themes of Laura Canciamilla's career. She attended Mt. Diablo schools and was an active student at Ygnacio Valley High School. She then attended Stanford University on a scholarship and worked as a resident advisor, helping fellow students adjust to college life. Canciamilla worked as a high school English teacher, counselor, site administrator, and district office administrator during her more than 30 years of working in schools. During that time she also spent four years working with the Association of California School Administrators, coordinating services to underperforming schools throughout the state. She assisted parents, teachers, and administrators who were working hard to improve student achievement. In 2004, Canciamilla campaigned for the Pittsburg School Board to share her experience and skills with her home community. She was the top vote getter in that election. She currently serves on the Delegate Assembly of the California School Boards Association and is committed to advocating on behalf of education in California. Canciamilla is running for the Assembly to bring the same public service and problem solving commitment to Sacramento. She will focus on education, fiscal responsibility, job skills and training, and the need for vital community services -- healthcare, transportation, and safety.
