Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Clark Baker

Candidate for
Member of the State Assembly; District 42; Republican Party

This information is provided by the candidate

The problem with running for office is that people expect politicians to act like politicians. This poses a problem for tactless street cops like me who seek office: Do I tell people what they think they want to hear, or do I express myself honestly and risk disfavor?

Many successful politicians get re-elected by doing what they pretend to oppose and by blocking what they pretend to support. For them, the difference between winning or losing depends not on their courage, but on their ability to make voters think they like being screwed. Although Democrats have controlled the 42nd Assembly District since the 1940s, these seat-swappers spend union and developer money to convince us that their liaisons have nothing to do with the harm created by their public schooled, eminently domained, hillside developed, air polluted, and union influenced progeny.

Of the many issues facing America today, none is more critical than the failure of our public schools. Until America's multi-billion dollar drop-out factories are closed, our children will not develop the character, capacity, or care necessary to participate as jurors or voters who are the foundation of American democracy. History offers many examples of what happens to great countries when voters rely on emotional cues (rather than reasonableness) to decide court cases, political races, and national policy.

As a native Angeleno of an immigrant parent, I have spent my thirty years of public service as a marine, parent, LA cop, investigator, and neighborhood council board member. Unlike career politicians who graduate from private schools, college, and spend their careers in corporate offices or academia, I've spent my professional life on the streets, neighborhoods, and housing projects where I witnessed and cleaned up the often disastrous results of their good intentions while they slept peacefully within gate-guarded communities.

If voters are looking for an award-winning career public servant, my record is unrivaled. I didn't just talk about human rights, I protected them - sometimes at great personal risk. But I cannot win this campaign alone. I need your help and your vote to succeed. I want great schools, safe streets, secure borders, effective healthcare, tort reform, lower taxes, and reduced red tape for business owners.

I invite voters to visit my campaign website or weblogs. Unlike my opponents, you'll find opinions on issues without platitudes or clichés. And if you have questions, feel free to email me at Vote4CW@sbcglobal.net. I'll be happy to hear from you.

Clark
