Mark was born and raised in Vallejo, California where he attended public schools. An Eagle Scout, he was involved in civics through Scouting and dedicated many years of his life to the movement. A son of immigrant parents he learned the trade of his father and spent fifteen years working as a union plasterer in the San Francisco Bay Area. Highlight of his career was spending a year and a half on the decorative restoration of the State Capitol. He held many union offices as a plasterer including secretary to the apprenticeship committee, vice president, and president of the union, as well as assistant business agent and barganing team member. After leaving plastering in 1991 he earned a Bachelors Degree in liberal studies at Sonoma State University in 1995 and a teaching credential in 1997. He has been employed for nine years as an elementary school teacher in Rohnert Park where he makes his home. An active member of the California Teachers Association, he serves as vice president of his association as well as serving as president of the Sonoma County Educators Association. Elected to serve for the last three years to the State Council of the California Teachers Association, he is the subcommittee chair on policy for the Assesment, Standards and Testing Committee. Divorced, with two teenage children he loves Contra Dancing, Morris Dancing, traveling and gardening. |
