Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Gregory A Loew

Candidate for
Democratic Party County Central Committee; County of San Mateo; Supervisorial District 3

This information is provided by the candidate

A few months ago I submitted to our Party the summary shown below of what I think WE AS DEMOCRATS BELIEVE IN:

1) As Democrats we believe in respecting all individuals of all ethnic origins, religious persuasions and sexual orientations, and in giving special support to those of us who are underprivileged or sick, our veterans who have served our country, and our disadvantaged children and seniors.

2) We believe that as individuals we all benefit from contributing to our communities at a local, state or national level, supporting our public institutions and protecting our shared environment and infrastructure.

3) We believe that society works best if it upholds both social and economic fairness. Four essential elements which contribute to fairness are high quality public education, affirmative action, equal job opportunity and progressive taxation.

4) To implement these values, we believe that we require an open, honest and effective government. Contrary to frequent claims by the opposition, government is not an evil per se and is essential to protect us from abuses.

5) We believe that our democratic electoral system is capable of giving us good government, but that it must be made more responsive through electoral reforms, greater participation of an informed electorate, and trustworthy voting machines.

6) We believe that our society must be ruled by a strong, fair and humane system of laws, and that fundamental civil rights must not be sacrificed in the name of security.

7) Finally, we believe that our sense of community must extend beyond our borders and that as a nation, we owe it to the world and to ourselves, to respect international law, help other nations, and work for peace and non-violence. War should be considered only as a last resort, under extreme circumstances and in self-defense.
