Political Philisophy - Education is the Best Investment.

I was accepted by the University of California, Berkeley, in 1968, but for want of $1000 I was not able to attend. (I had $2000). By working odd jobs, I started college at age 26 and finally graduated with a BS in Electronics from night school at age 33. I have been working as an engineer ever since with middle class wages. Of course I am appreciative of the opportunities that have been afforded me as an American, but I am hardly unaware of the loss of income not only to myself but also to our country due to those 10 years of my not working in a career vocation up to my potential.

Currently, China graduates 700,000 engineers annually to the U.S.'s 70,000. China is starting to compete with the U.S. for the worlds' resources. The Republican Party in the U.S. is in charge of the govenment and therefore our response. Their response? Tax cuts and subsidies for the already wealthy even while California's budget restraints have caused 70,000 less junior college students to be able to attend school, along with comparable losses in the numbers of university students due to budget cutbacks. Tuition has risen faster than inflation all over the country due to those financial cutbacks to education.

In order to compete in the global economy into the future, we need to build technical expertise in our economy. The Republican Party's Response? Outsource jobs to India.

The communist government of China will not do us any favors if we suddenly wake up as Super Power #2 and China is Super Power #1.

Maybe India will outsource their jobs back to us if that happens.

I say tax the wealthy and spend the money on the best possible investment: Education!

There are two kinds of investors in the American economy:

Shareholder investors, and

Taxpayer investors.

Shareholder investors get their return through dividends, and taxpayer investors get their return by taxes paid back into the system. When the Republicans corrupt the payment of taxes back into the system, those dollars become laundered from the taxpayer investors to the cronies of the Republican Party.
