Serving on the School BoardBy Martin MarcusCandidate for Board Member; San Diego Unified School District; Trustee Area B | |

My training in Psychology and as a Counselor makes me uniquely qualified for consensus building. The skills I learned in Psychology and Counseling are exactly the skills needed when working with a multi-member board. My experiences on the Allied Gardens Community Council, the Benchley-Weinberger Governance Board, the B-W PTA, the Patrick Henry Reconfiguration Team and Lewis Middle School Reorganization Team also prepare me for this type of cooperative decision-making process. These committees, especially the B-W Governance Board made decisions by consensus. My skills as a researcher and the ability to synthesize information will enable me to gain the respect of others on the board, and in the community. My experiences as a teacher and parent will make my comments more meaningful when considering education matters. |
