Eleanor A. Mang was born in Elgin, Illinois in 1935 and soon moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where she lived with her parents until moving San Diego, California in 1940. Between schools and beaches in Coronado and La Jolla she filled her years until high school graduation.

As a young wife and mother Eleanor lived in Pacific Beach until moving to Clairemont where she raised five children who attended Riley Elementary, Hale Junior High, and Madison High Schools. The eldest now serves on the national executive board of Audubon, one monitors inventory for a music publishing house, and three are California educators. She also is the proud grandmother of eight.

Thanks to the encouragement of her husband Joe, Eleanor preceded her children to college in 1971, where she earned an AA in Child Development from Mesa College before graduating with high honors in Human Resources Management from SDSU's School of Business in 1976.

Prior to retiring from her position as VP Operations in 1998, Eleanor was blessed with a challenging career with an Escondido manufacturing firm. Her responsibilities led her to extensive travel and she called herself "the lucky lady." Her goals for retirement included tutoring, community involvement, and Democratic Party involvement.

After volunteering at the SDCDP headquarters during the 2000 Gore campaign, Eleanor restarted and expanded the territory of the defunct Mesa Democratic Club. In 2002, after loosing her bid for the Central Committee she was pleased to be selected as one of the alternates and was eventually elected to serve on the Executive Board as Director of Administration. Since April 2003, she has enjoyed working with other volunteers to provide information and support to San Diego Democrats from Party headquarters. Needless to say, Eleanor hopes to be elected to the Central Committee in 2004.
