My reason for running for San Jose City Council is very simple- I want to make District One a safe and healthy place to live. My major goals for the district can be summed up in these four points:

1) Getting District One Its Fair Share-

San Jose is facing very serious issues in the near future--and I want to make sure that the residents of District One do not get put on the "back burner." I will not loose sight of my job as your representative--making government work for you in a streamlined, fiscally responsible and transparent manner will be my mission. You can also expect me to meet the major city-wide challenges head-on. I have 6 years of experience on the San Jose Planning Commission. My experience on the Planning Commission has given me the common sense approach and proven leadership a Councilmember needs to tackle the issues facing San Jose.

2) Breaking the Traffic Gridlock-

Everyone wants to spend less time on the road and more time at home with their families. But this does not give us the right to cut through our neighborhood streets at high speeds to avoid the traffic gridlock on our major streets. As a San Jose Planning Commissioner, I know what it takes to produce results. We need to get out into the field and collectively work towards a goal- The City Council, SJPD, Department of Transportation, traffic experts, and members of the effected community. Without the input from all of these players, traffic problems will continue.

3) Crime Prevention-

The basic prevention and diversion programs we have in San Jose need to be expanded. There needs to be more options for kids after school, more programs that identify and counsel at-risk youth and drug prevention/rehabilitation programs need to be readily available. I look forward to working with a fully funded SJPD on these prevention issues and I will make sure they have the tools they need to enforce the law in San Jose.

4) Fighting for Our Kids-

My number one priority will be establishing a relationship with the local school districts in order to work closely with them on the future of District One's schools. I want to make sure our school parks and playgrounds can be used by our kids after school.
