Candidate for
Council Member, 1; City of San Jose; Council District 1

I am running for San José City Council because I love San José. I have lived in San José for nearly 30 years, and almost all of that time I have lived in District 1. District 1 is where I went to high school, where I got my first job, where I bought my first house, where I have operated my businesses, where I worked the streets as a San José police officer, where my wife and I live, and where we are raising our five children. District 1 is my home. District 1 is my life.

San José is a great place to live, work, and play.

But San José also faces serious challenges. In the past several months the residents of San José have seen a city council member censured, charged with criminal acts, and resign office; a botched technology contract and the withholding of the true costs of furniture and technology at the new city hall; secret backroom deals for our garbage contract, a civil grand jury investigation that finds the mayor lying, followed by his subsequent censure; and the departure of three of the city's top managers.

Enough is enough!

It is time for the residents of San José to elect people to our city government that believe in, and practice, the core values of honesty, integrity, and accountability. These are values that I have based my life upon and have clearly demonstrated in my 14 year career in law enforcement, in my private business endeavors, and in my long history of community involvement.

I believe good governance is about listening to the needs of the community, respecting all views, and leading honestly and openly with the best interests of the community at heart. I believe in focusing on the big picture; balancing progress with sustainability, new development with preservation, benefit with burden. I believe in providing the residents of San José with the level of service that they deserve, while maintaining fiscal responsibility and restraint.

Most of all, I believe that it is important to actively contribute to the community in which you live. I have made it a priority in my life to serve the community of San José through my service as a police officer, my extensive work with nonprofit agencies, my service as a member of a city commission, and my involvement in my neighborhood. These many years of varied service have given me the knowledge, skills, and experience to be an effective member of the San José City Council.
