For over fifteen years, I have enjoyed the privilege of serving the people of Orange County as their Superior Court Commissioner. As a judicial officer selected by the sitting elected or appointed judges, I perform the same work and preside over the same kinds of cases as the judges. I have had the opportunity to attend the renowned Witkin Judicial College in Berkeley, have attended and continue to attend courses in substantive and procedural aspects of the judicial system to maintain and improve my competency in law, have been taught and continue to attend workshops to learn to conduct judicial proceedings in a fair, just, and impartial manner, and to implement that education on the bench.

I believe the most significant task before the judiciary is to assure fair and equal justice for all parties. Too often cultural, language, or economic barriers prevent a person in need from having a fair hearing in the appropriat legal forum. Domestic violence, emotional and sexual abuse, and issues directly impacting the well-being of our children cannot be adequately addressed if the courts cannot be utilized to enforce the laws to protect such victims. The challenge will be to continue to reach out to the community, to provide facilitators, mediators, and knowledgeable advisors to afford everyone their day in court without increasing the burden of the taxpayer.
