Proposition 13 Protects Our Homes and Businesses

As you may be aware, Proposition 13 forever changed California's property tax landscape. It capped the property tax rate at 1 percent (plus bonded indebtedness), limited annual increases to 2 percent (except upon a change in ownership or new construction), and required that any new property taxes be approved by a two-thirds majority of the voters. These measures have successfully stopped homeowners from being taxed out of their homes.

Despite Prop. 13's Popularity, it is Under Attack by the Pro-tax Lobby

Our pro-tax legislators have attempted to weaken Prop. 13's protection for our business under various "split roll" proposals. Teachers' unions have successfully lowered the 2/3 threshold for school bonds to 55 percent. Lastly, our own county fought against Prop. 13 in court. These threats show how far our leaders are willing go to increase our taxes.

See Mike's Web site for more details on how Prop. 13 is under attack.

Mike is an Unwavering Supporter of Prop. 13

Mike opposes any effort to hurt our businesses by enacting a "split roll." In addition, he opposes any effort to lower the amount of votes required to approve new bonded indebtedness. Protecting Prop. 13 will be Mike's highest priority upon taking office.
