The Hellman Area Neighborhood Association (HANA) Community Code Enforcement Team has been named Community Code Enforcement Team of the Year
The Hellman Area Neighborhood Association (HANA) Community Code Enforcement Team has been named Community Code Enforcement Team of the Year

The title is given in recognition of the group's dedicated effort to address blight in their neighborhood, in partnership with the Long Beach Neighborhood Services code enforcement division. The group will receive the award as Long Beach celebrates National Community Development week, April 18 at a ceremony of the Museum of Latin American Art.

The team is chaired by Second District candidate Brian Ulaszewski, who will accept the award on behalf of the group. These residents and property owners have volunteered their time to work with the City of Long Beach to address blighting issues and their efforts have led to significant improvements in the conditions of the Hellman neighborhood and the surrounding community.

Brian Ulaszewski has led HANA since late 2004. Prior to that, he co-chaired the Craftsman Village Historic District Focus Group. This is the third major award the neighborhood has received in a year. In 2005, the community was awarded Neighborhood Association of the Year in Long Beach and second place on a national level by NeighborhoodsUSA.

Brian Ulaszewski has continually taken the initiative to make positive changes in his community, utilizing the resources provided by the City as well as the talents and energy of the community.
