Member of the California Critical Incident Team for Homeland Security In the 3rd District I have sponsored a number of youth sports teams and coached baseball at NOR for 10 years or more helping to actually build the baseball diamonds they play on. I also learned to play baseball there in Oildale Little League. My uncle Babe Haddock was well known for his support of baseball in Oildale. I grew up in Oildale and went to Beardsley and Standard Schools. I was also a Boy Scout in Troop 5 (Oildale Troop). I have built and remodeled several homes in the northwest having learned the building trades from my father-in-law, J.E. White. As a Reserve Deputy I worked many of the streets of the 3rd District and as their Peer Counselor got to work all over the County. I was first drafted to help the Sheriff's Department in the 1970's by Al Loustalot to train all of the sheriff deputies about safe handling of violently mentally ill persons and the County Librarians to protect children from pedophiles preying on children in the libraries. I was first sworn as a Deputy by Sheriff Larry Kleier to establish the Peer Counseling Program, was on the Sheriff's Advisory Board for Sheriff John Smith, and completed the Reserve Deputy Academy at Cerro Cosa College and sworn as a Reserve Deputy by Sheriff Carl Sparks. I continued as a Reserve Deputy under Sheriff Mack Wimbish until I retired as a Reserve Deputy in December 2004. I worked at North Kern State Prison screening mentally ill inmates and at Corcoran State Prison on a Special Project to revamp medical services in the Department of Corrections and to help license their hospital for the Joint Commission. I have been in almost every prison in California evaluating Sexually Violent Predators helping to keep the people of California safe. Yes, I did play the spoons for the Oildale Winery Band at the Bakersfield Symphony and for several other charity functions. I learned to play spoons at Beardsley school. Who else but a guy from Oildale would have done such a thing? But, I got to play with some great people for some great causes including Jason Thieste of the Smokin' Armadillos and Will Rogers' great grand daughter, Jennifer Rogers Etchevery. We love to travel. My wife and I won 1,000,000 miles each of free travel in a contest in 2000. We have traveled every country in Latin America and most of South America and Europe. My daughter, Keri, studied abroad in Europe last year through Point Loma Nazarene University's Art Department study abroad program. I am a member of the Cherokee Nation.
