Political Philosophy for Richard Marks

Dear Voter, Now more than ever, it is clear that we need a change in local politics. As working people we are often underrepresented at every level of government. That is why I am running for Board of Supervisors in the 4th District. A fresh, genuinely progressive outlook is needed to address the tough issues facing Humboldt County. As a middle class worker, I live the concerns of everyday working people. I can use sane, moderate judgment when addressing county development and budget issues because I have the pulse of the greater Eureka area. As a child I sold the local newspaper on the streets, mowed lawns, sold fish I caught from the local docks, and learned strong work ethics. People have commented that we export our most valuable assets from this area: our children. It is sad but true. I ran for this position 8 years ago because of the lack of economic development in Humboldt County and the fear that there would be few jobs paying a livable wage for my children. My sons are now adults and have left the area for better opportunities. A central goal of mine is to aggressively promote businesses that will create sustainable living-wage jobs so that future generations can stay in this area. The future of Humboldt County is at stake. Join me in the struggle to take local government back and put it into the hands of the people, where it belongs. Sincerely, Richard Marks |
