  • Adapted from - "Greg Allen: Making Democracy Better" written by Megan Vogel, published by the Times-Standard

"Attorney Greg Allen can discuss everything from the roots of blues music to modern German history, but his favorite topic is what it means to live in a participatory democracy...

...Allen grew up in the Bay Area, and earned a bachelor's degree in communications and humanities from Stanford University, where he also earned a master's degree in modern European history. After earning his master's degree, he lived in Germany for a year before attending law school at the University of Illinois. For the past six months he has been on the board of the [Northern California Affiliate of the] American Civil Liberties Union, and has served on the ACLU Redwood Chapter [board of directors] for the past year and a half. Allen said he has been practicing law for 26 years."

  • Adapted from - "10 choices for three City Council seats" By Kevin L. Hoover, published in the Arcata Eye

"Greg Allen, 51, is an attorney and registered Green Party member. He's issued a call for substance, civility and civil rights. "The people of Arcata deserve an elections process that is respectful of both the seriousness of the issues and the office of City Council," he said. He challenged fellow candidates to "focus on issues rather than personalities."

As the attorney who co-authored the various civil liberties initiatives now being circulated, he supports them all, especially the three on which he is the original signatory and main proponent - the police review, anti-dance permit and medical marijuana measures."

  • Adapted from - "Familiar faces in Arcata Council race" By Charles Douglas, published in the Humboldt Advocate

"His priorities include fiscal responsibility, job creation and protection of privacy and free speech.

"The leadership skills I have and the heart I bring to this would be very helpful," he said. The City needs a more solid footing of responsible spending, and more of a focus on attracting new employers, especially in technical fields. To some extent, part of Arcata's future is to be a technology center."

Allen, a Green Party member, has proposed a four-story minimum on new buildings in the downtown core, citywide wireless Internet service and support for a living wage."
