  • Immigrated from Belgium and learned English in the fifth Grade at Rockridge Elementary School in Oakland.

  • Attended Claremont, Oakland Technical High, Oakland City College.

  • Possess advanced degrees in Mathematics (A.A.), Police Science (B.S.), Public Administration (M.P.A.)

  • Union carpenter while attending pre-med classes. Joined Oakland Police Department 1965.

  • Worked throughout the department, loved motorcycles and street duties; became influential in administration, authored many studies implemented today.

  • US Army Reserve 820th Combat Engineers 1968 to 1974.

  • OPD On-duty Injury retired 1976, raised six children as stay-at-home Dad, started several businesses, became an investor and financier.

  • Returned to OPD activities in 2005, volunteered for new Ombudsman position in 2006. Pushing for "Response Time," Youth Services Division, Crime Analysis and Research & Development, Cop on Every Beat, Park-and-Walk, Stop-and-Talk, and others.

  • Ongoing studies include engineering, law, philosophy and sociology.

  • Major interests are family and six wonderful children, City of Oakland and OPD, people, avid reader, photography, hiking and outdoors.

  • Engaging, charming, knowledgeable, a natural leader and an experienced business manager.

  • Working for Safer Greater Oakland, Oakland Freedom Tower and Oakland There!
