It has been an honor to serve Oakland as President of the City Council and as a City Councilmember during the past decade. As your Council President, I have been directing the legislative business of the city government which includes balancing our budget every year and crafting policies to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

I have been working hard for you by focusing on four priorities:

1. Schools: My proudest accomplishment is the new Cesar Chavez Learning Center with public schools and wide soccer fields to reduce overcrowding for children and teachers. To demonstrate my commitment, I have been visiting every school in Oakland.

2. Safety: No city leader has more experience fighting crime -- whether it's shutting down liquor stores and drug houses or expanding community policing.

3. Services: I am working hard to ensure that our city government excels at delivering basic services: clean parks, repaved streets, and positive alternatives for youth.

4. Continuing Oakland's Economic Revitalization: I have a proven track record of getting things done, including the successful Fruitvale Transit Village and affordable housing for our seniors. I am working hard to attract high-quality retail to generate revenues for after-school programs.
