Questions & Answers

1. Do you think the proposed LNG facility should be built in Long Beach Harbor? If elected, what actions would you take to support your position?

I am a strong supporter of alternative energy. I authored a council motion to have the city convert their fleet to alt fuel vehicles, and I drive a Toyota Prius hybrid. I am concerned about the proposed location for the LNG plant because it is close to First District homes and businesses, and I fully expect the issue to be appealed to the City Council after the EIR is heard by the Harbor Commission. For that reason, I cannot legally take a position "for" or "against" the EIR before that time.

2. Should Long Beach airport be expanded? If so, to what degree, and what improvements and enhancements would be essential? Under what circumstances, if any, should the number of available flight slots be increased?

I believe our airport desperately needs renovating and updating to accommodate mandated security equipment and procedures, as well as provide comfortable accommodations for the traveling public, while strictly complying with our federally-approved 41-flight-day limit. Long Beach is one of very few cities that have a cap on flights, and we need to protect it in order to keep it.

3. What should Long Beach be doing to improve air quality?

Both the City of Long Beach and the Port of Long Beach should vigorously work to improve air quality for our community. By working with our state and federal representatives, as well as regional agencies like the AQMD, we can protect the health of our residents and workers, while promoting economic growth and transportation improvements that can provide needed environmental protections.
