Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Tom King

Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Walnut

This information is provided by the candidate

As a local official, I look for regional solutions for local problems. As your mayor I have learned to work with other elected officials to find answers.

Take traffic for instance. Much of our traffic is created from people living in one community, and working or shopping in another. While local congestion and neighborhood speeding must be addressed, we must also work with regional, state and federal leaders to define regional projects and attract funds to buy them.

This regional approach includes projects like the Alameda Corrider East, a $1 billion dollar project that one community alone cannot do.

I am a member of the Transportation Committee of the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, and a member of the League of California Cities, and of the Public Safety Committee.

Working with theser groups, I will increase Metrolink and commuter bus ridership, and courge the use of more public transportations. We need to make our streets and freeways less crowded.
