I Will Represent The People, Not "Big Money"

By Jo Ann (Smith) Curtis, Esq.

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Santa Clarita

This information is provided by the candidate
After four years, it is time for a fresh approach and new leadership. City Council's current focus appears to be on "big money." I am "unbought and unbossed". I am not obligated to anyone but you the citizens of the City of Santa Clarita.
Why am I running for City Counsel? We need to make changes to get back our quality of life. We want to look at green rolling hills rather than huge brown scars, stop the uncontrolled building, solve traffic congestion, eliminate overcrowding in our schools and hire more Sheriffs for the safety of our community.

We are known as the safest City and have the best schools. I talked to a Sheriff and he said not the safest city for long. In a recent interview, Congressman McKeon said "we need to do a better job with education".

I don't think the citizens are being represented, I believe the City Council is focused on "BIG MONEY".

I am not obligated to anyone but you the citizens of this city. What do you want, what do you need + are you better off today than four years ago?

When I first came up to this area six years ago, homes were affordable, there were beautiful rolling hillsides with vegetation, reasonable traffic, and now look at how we are sprawled all over, traffic is a nightmare, the beautiful hillsides are scared and graded for more homes.

We have passed bonds and incurred huge debts that will not be paid off for thirty years. Are the schools we are building going to be adequate for your children and future generations? What about the traffic, will our roads and transportation serve the growing population in 20 years? Will our children be able to buy a home in this Valley? Will you be able to afford to retire in this Valley?

The way we are going I don't think so. I think we are incurring debt that our children will be saddled with and they will have to carry the burden of more debt because the infrastructure we leave them will not be adequate. We are just putting out fires now instead of looking towards the future.

I have the training and experience in analyzing, researching, developing and planning strategies to solve problems. I am an experienced advocate in communication, writing and presenting the facts to support my position

I am "unbought and unbossed". I have the freedom to vote for what the people want and need. As a council member I will meet with you, talk to and listen to your concerns.
