No mud slinging allowed

The flier said I had `been rejected by this Village 4 times'. That is true - but let us look at that record. I lost to Lonny Hubbard who went to prison for some of his activities as Mayor. I think the voters made a mistake! I lost to Fred Mathews who quickly resigned and we got Ellison back. I think the voters made a mistake! I lost to Jim Toles after entering the race 4 weeks before the election as a write-in candidate. Over 40% of the voters wrote my name in - a phenomenal result. I made a mistake in not getting my name on the ballot.

I lost to the Mayor the first time he ran. I could not call that a big mistake but it was not the best choice by the voters. Most of the time he has been an adequate Mayor. The trouble is we have needed something more than just adequate. That flier also said `It takes time, hard work and money to undo the damage that brings a Village to its knees". The Village has been brought to its knees over the last 18 years. What was being doing to prevent that from happening? Certainly some one wasn't looking ahead to what would occur. I believe if I had been elected in 1993 that Elmwood Place would not be in such bad shape now.

The flier said I told you I was smart. I did not! I said I was well educated which I am. Being well educated and smart are two different things. Having an educated Mayor with solid management experience is a good idea for our town. It was claimed that I offered `unspecified accomplishments'. Not true! I have spelled them out clearly. I was accused of abstained on a vote to get a bank loan to fix the streets. I did because we had no plan for how we would pay it back. I thought that was necessary before going ahead. If I had opposed it I would have voted no. I usually know which side I'm on.

The flier says I will `run our Senior citizens and the Library out of the Town Hall'. NO WAY! I was one of the people to campaign against the closing of our Library. I got in to reading using our old Library in the mid 1940's. It is a very important Village asset to me. I would like to expand its capabilities for our youth and seniors and will if elected. And I'm accused of making misrepresentations! Excuse me, but that is real baloney!

There is no one currently on Council that can step in as Mayor.What happens if that becomes necessary? I went out and got two young men to run for Council that have the potential of learning how to be Mayor. It's called looking ahead!

Let us not make a mistake this time on who is elected Mayor. The sky is falling in Elmwood Place and we need to address that fact.It's about time to toss out the reason for that and get new and better Town Hall leadership.
