Excellent business background with financial, marketing and management experience

Hundreds of hours of study of contemporary education issues including research and testimony before Ohio state legislators

Four years of successful service on the Madeira Board of Education including building and grounds committee with oversight of $28M construction project

Answer from Kathy Hurst:

My work background is sales and customer service. I have been active for over 20 years as a school volunteer: classroom volunteer, in PTA, Fundraising, School Levies and as MSF Auction Chair. For the past 4 years I have served on the BOE Building & Grounds and Community Relations committees.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

Answer from Jay Groenke:

Insist on strong building level and district level accountability for how school money is spent Defend tried and proven education methods while remaining open to innovative new and sensible ideas Continue to work with administration to closely monitor the performance of our construction contractors Remain vigilant and informed about the status of important issues at the state and federal level which may affect our ability to retain local control and do the best possible job for our students, parents and community

Answer from Kathy Hurst:

I'm committed to uphold Madeira's tradition of excellence-our curriculum, our community's standards, our expectations. We must continue to hire highly qualified teachers and administrators who will keep Madeira among the state's top rated schools. We must continue to support our board representative and superintendent to lobby the general assembly for laws that will benefit our schools. We must maintain open communications with our community.

3. What will you do as a Board of Education member to increase parental involvement in your school system? (100 word limit)

Answer from Kathy Hurst:

We are extremely fortunate to have dedicated parent volunteers who already spend countless hours helping our schools. I would continue our BOE tradition of maintaining open communications with our parents and continue to recognize them for donating their time and talents.
