2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

Answer from Julie Stautberg:

Serving the citizens of Hamilton County, as an assistant prosecutor, director of elections, and now as a judge, is a responsibilty I value. I will continue to treat all participants in the court with respect and dignity. Every day in court is an opportunity to positively influence our community. The Mental Health Docket is an alternative court option for individuals charged with certain offenses, who meet the criteria for this court, and I am one of two judges who preside over this docket, in addition to my regularly assigned duties.

Answer from Jerry Metz:

In our American system of justice, each decision serves as guide and precedent for the next. Good judges build the public trust by considered and impartial decisions.

I will decide cases according to the evidence, impartially. I will apply the law as established by statute, by our State and Federal constitutions, and by precedent. I believe that courts should keep in mind the impact of decisions on the people as a whole. Judges should explain decisions so as better to guide the parties and others.

I believe that courts should punish crime appropriately, consistent with the law. But the law must apply equally and fairly to us all. Each person who appears in our courts is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect.
