2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

Answer from Peggy A. Brickweg:

I plan to work on changing the city charter to allow for a city manager. I want a city manager that is qualified and answers to council. I would like the city manager to have the responsibility of assigning all appointed positions and end appointed jobs. If someone is doing a great job they keep their job no matter which political party holds the power. I want to work on getting stricter property maintenance codes and enforce them. The city needs a long term plan for Vine Street and actually do it!

Answer from Frank Wylds:

To work with the present administration on and to keep the budget balanced. To work on homeowners to improve property values. Utilize the HIP inspector to improve housing stock. Tougher building codes.

Answer from Cindi A (Strittholt) Bedinghaus:

Address all issues and concerns that are brought to my attention within a timely manner. Communicate all decisions to the concerned party(s). Make informed decisions based on the information presented by the experts. Think creatively, and suggest out of the box ideas, to improve are infrastructure in order to attract businesses and citizens.

3. What steps would you take to ensure that all public facilities are accessible to people with disabilities? (100 words limit)

Answer from Peggy A. Brickweg:

I currently work with a man who is disabled and he is educating me on many web sites and grants. He has sent me a lot of printed materials on ways to improve our city's accessibility and what is required or our city. Recently I have been working with him on trying to get grants to pay for curb cuts.

Answer from Cindi A (Strittholt) Bedinghaus:

Utilize the experts who have the information about this area to keep me up to date. When an area of concern is brought to my attention or I identify a breech in this area make sure that the information is given to those who can make the change. I would then follow up and make sure that the change has occurred. When addressing such issues be aware of the timeline that is given in order to make the change.

4. What specific steps will you take to expand recycling services in your community? (100 words limit)

Answer from Cindi A (Strittholt) Bedinghaus:

Information and awareness is key in letting citizens know what items can be recycled. Publish the benefit to the city and the citizens.

Answer from Peggy A. Brickweg:

I would continue to inform the citizens of the amount of money this saves our city by letting them know how much we pay for garbage to go to the dump. I would also educate them on how this helps our environment. The city needs to make sure every home has a recycle bin.

5. What steps would you take to provide affordable housing for all residents of your community? (100 words limit)

Answer from Cindi A (Strittholt) Bedinghaus:

Research the area for the market share within and surrounding our city in order to make sure that the city provides housing that is conducive for them. Provide a variety of options of housing that will attract the market share that we are trying to capture.

Answer from Peggy A. Brickweg:

I feel our main concern is not just affordable housing but quality housing that is maintained. We need to clean up the housing to encourage people to move to St. Bernard and stay in St. Bernard. We need to encourage people to purchase property instead of just renting. The city should work and encourage low interest loans for repairing property. The city needs to encourage builders to build on vacant lots by selling the lots to builders.
