I am currently serving as director and have served in every fire suppression position in the Menlo Park Fire Protection District from firefighter to fire chief over a very successful career of 39 years.

Many things have been accomplished during my first term of office, of which has been a team effort by the entire board and the members of the fire district. I am proud of my record as a board member. over the past three and one half years I have served as President, member of the Finance Committee, Human Resources Committee, Capital Improvement Committee and was liaison to the cities of East Palo Alto and Menlo Park.

During my first term as a board member there were many accomplishments by the board and staff. Many were initiated by me and many were initiated by my colleagues. All were debated with input by all members to provide our community the outstanding emergency services that the Menlo Park Fire Protection District provides.

The list is great and I will not list them all here. A few that I am the proudest of are:

Finance: Pay off of all debt, the district is now debt free; establishment of capital improvement funds where a percentage of our overall budget is directed into this fund for equipment and facilities repair and replacement.

Community: Establishment of Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) training. Established a highly skilled team, to provide motivation and training to community members for self protection in the event of a disaster. To date there have been over 200 trained and they are prepared to assist their neighbors if professional emergency employees cannot.

Emergency Response: Improving (work in progress) relationships with Palo Alto Fire for automatic aid to each jurisdiction. Both agencies set on the ends of their respective counties which requires aid from the North and South respectively outside each county area. Both need each other to improve response times for better service.

Administration: Created a Directors' Board Policy Manual. This sets forth a series of policies and Board rules to govern the conduct and deliberations of business conducted by the Board.

Reactivated the Annual Reporting system. A summary system of all activities whereby measurements of past years can be evaluated for future assessments.

I have served on many boards and commissions, to name a few; City of Menlo Park Parks and Recreation Commission, American National Red Cross Board of Directors, College of San Mateo Fire Science Advisory Board Chairperson, San Mateo County Joint Apprenticeship Fire/Medic Chairperson, Lifetime Teaching credentials for college level Fire Science courses, San Mateo County Fire Chief's Association Training Officers Section Past President, California Fire Chief's Association.

My education has been focused in the fire service and municipal administration through San Mateo Community College, University of Santa Clara, State Fire Academy and National Fire Academy
