Ballot Statement for Bruce Swenson

Occupation: Retired Professor, Foothill College Education and qualifications:

PhD, UC-Berkeley, Community College Education BS, Stanford, Mathematics Professor of Mathematics, Foothill College, 20 years Vice President, Finance, Foothill College, 6 years

I care deeply about today's community college students, many of them the first in their families to attend college. All students have great potential, yet they need educational resources to realize their dreams. With an uncertain financial future, our colleges need trustees with educational and business expertise. I have those qualifications.
My entire career has been devoted to teaching and financial management. As a former professor, I understand how important affordable higher education is to students; and, as a former vice president of finance at Foothill College, I know how to balance tight budgets while protecting high-quality teachers and programs.
If elected, I will use my teaching and financial-management experience to ensure the district hires and retains superior teachers and staff, balances budgets, and preserves critical educational programs. I'll push to improve long-range financial planning, reduce escalating costs and encourage educational programs that prepare students for 21st-century Silicon Valley jobs. Join Congresswoman Anna Eshoo and County Supervisor Liz Kniss in supporting my candidacy.
