Is Thomasian running on a slate?

By Kris Thomasian

Candidate for Board Member; Murrieta Valley Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
This is shaping up to be a very interesting school board election in Murrieta. The candidates have been endorsed by a number of organizations in a variety of combinations, leading to some confusion in the community. I want to make it known to the voters that I am not running on a slate with any other candidate. Technically all of the seven other candidates are running for my seat on the board as well as the open seat. As a matter of fact, only one candidate has made it clear to me, and to anyone who will listen, that he is not running for my seat and is hopeful that we will both be elected to the board.

Many people have asked me who, besides me, should they vote for. I believe voters should look for a candidate who is a strong supporter of public schools and all students, regardless of their background or financial means. Board members must be willing to take the initiative and be involved in the district, learn about the issues and the laws of California, return phone calls and emails, and not simply show up at meetings and be a rubber stamp. I believe the voters elect board members to be their eyes and ears and to carefully watch over their tax dollars, asking questions, getting answers, being concerned, not because we don't trust staff, but because that is the community's expectation.

This is an important election. Vote wisely on November 8th.
