TOO MANY PARKING SIGNS AND METERS

By David John Sanchez

Candidate for Council Member; City of Los Angeles; District 14

The problem with taxing the people with costly parking tickets.
Recently, I received three parking tickets for over-due registration tags. I paid the tags but the state was slow to return proof of my registration. So now, I have to pay for the same ticket three times. That is Doulble Jeopardy. How can you pay for the same violation three times? In other words, the Los Angeles Parking Bureau is in violation of the people's trust. And they have become the most corrupt and inpersonal agent of our city government. Therefore, they must be corrected for their abuses against the public interest. The other problem is that they have more parking meters, and give more tickets in poor neighborhoods, more than in any other place. Of course, in the inner city, most people cannot put their cars in the drive way like in nicer neighborhoods. Is this racial or is it abuse of the poor? Another practice is that the Los Angeles Parking Violations Bureau will place stickers on parking signs, and when these stickers fall off, the sign will give you a false sense of security, and you get a ticket for parking on the wrong side of the street. The problem is that the City has created a monster which is out to take every dollar out of taxpayers. In reality, why is the city treating us like second class citizens with costly tickets, and where does this money go? Consequently, they are taking advantage. Now, they give you less time to pay and late fines are too high. They even put parking meters in front of people's houses. I propose that they reduce the number of parking meters and reduce the parking fines. Let's face it, excessive parking fee's is bad for business and makes Los Angeles seem like an unfriendly place. Please join me in this battle for justice! David John Sanchez
