Louie Alex Lujan was born in 1976 in Montebello, CA. His parents, Alex and Rachel, eventually moved to West Covina, CA where they continued to raise him and his two younger siblings. Louie, the eldest of the three siblings, remained very active in little league baseball and volunteered for many civic related activities. As they raised him, his parents continued to teach him the value of an education and encouraged him to attend college. Upon graduation with high honors from West Covina High School in 1994, Lujan was accepted to attend the University of Southern California (USC) where he earned his B.A. in Political Science in 1998. Lujan was then offered a full scholarship to complete his graduate studies at Loyola Marymount University (LMU). While at LMU, his interest in education led him to obtain his Masters Degree in Secondary Education (M.Ed.) and his teaching credential in 2000. Lujan then became a teacher of Government and Economics; his increased involvement as an educator led him to become an advocate for educational reform on the state and local level. In 2001, Lujan returned to the USC where he earned his second Masters Degree in Public Administration (M.P.A).

Lujan began his political career as an undergraduate at USC where he became an Intern for Congressman Esteban Torres (Ret.). Lujan was inspired by the Congressman to further pursue his interest in politics and education. His experiences with the Congressman and his advocacy for educational reform set the stage for his decision to run for public office. At the age of 23, he was the top vote getter among three candidates vying for two positions on the La Puente Valley County Water District in November of 1999. With the public supporting him, Mr. Lujan then set his sights on running for the La Puente City Council where, again, he was the top vote getter among six candidates vying for two seats in March 2001. His long-standing involvement in the community and quick rise in politics has given him the reputation of being one of the San Gabriel Valley's rising stars.

As an elected official, Lujan is passionate about issues such as educational reform, affordable housing, health care, ground water contamination and the utilization of technology to improve government. Currently, Lujan serves as a Committee Member for the National League of Cities Technology Council, a delegate for the California Contract Cities Association, the Foothill Transit Zone, and the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments. His many community affiliations include the La Puente Youth Coalition, La Puente Redevelopment Board, Bassett Educational Advisory Committee, and the California Z Fellow Technology Advisory Committee.

In June of 2002, Lujan married his Fiancé, Christina. Their wedding was a community event held at St. Louis of France Church in La Puente, CA. Today, Louie and Christina Lujan remain active in La Puente and take great pride in serving the community.
