We Need a New Vision and New Direction

By Marta "Williamson-Cox" Kester

Candidate for City Council Member; City of Palmdale

This information is provided by the candidate
Our way of thinking and viewing our community is antiquated. We must move into a direction for the welfare of our future generations. We must again go back to the standard of "promote the general welfare" for everyone.
The Constitution states Government is to "promote the general welfare," not sales taxes. The "General Welfare" is for the entire population, for residents in old as well as new neighborhoods. Every resident deserves the same opportunities to have:
  • clean water to drink
  • clean air to breathe
  • safe environments, for work and play
  • opportunities for an excellent education

Our children are not reaping the visionary benefits our founders shared as the future of their posterity.

We need a new direction and new vision for our community, not just big box retailers. Why give billion dollar corporations millions of dollars to bring minimum wage jobs that keep people uninsured for medical care and on food stamps?

  • I propose we redirect money from the redevelopment agency to bring in real entrepreneurial businesses that will bring job stability to the community. It is well known small entreprenueral businesses will bring economic stability and better than minimum wage jobs.
  • We must protect our higher income jobs at Air Force Plant 42. We could petentially lose 10,000 jobs if the Sanitiaion District plan is implemented, That means we must find a better solution for sewage treatment proposed by the sanitation district.

The Mayors of both cities and appointed councilmen sit on our sanitation district boards.
  • It is time to work on better solutions with new leadership that is knowledgeable about these issues and will not be led around in circles by the sanitation district.
  • Dumping of illegal hazardous waste in our landfills impacts our air and water supplies. We must tell those that are making profits by allowing illegal dumping in our landfills it will no longer be tolerated.

It is time to exercise our right to a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
