WORK EXPERIENCE & RELATED BACKGROUND: 1992-Present I opened the first bagel store in Manhattan Beach, Manhattan Beach Bagel Co., in 1992, and two years later expanded by opening the Manhattan Bread Co. Recently we remodeled and combined the concepts into Manhattan Bread & Bagel. We operate 7 days a week and employ 40 people in both full, and part-time, positions. I developed all aspects of the businesses including recipes and business systems. We give all our fulltime employees health insurance and pension benefits.

I designed and built 5 of my own bakeries over the last 7 years that included successfully completing two conditional use permit applications for the city of Manhattan Beach. Other locations included, Torrance/Lomita, Westwood, Pasadena, Northridge, and two licensed locations at LAX. I sold all these operation except Manhattan Beach in 1998. At the height of our growth pattern, we employed 150 people.

1986-1992 In 1986 I began employment Tishman West, a large commercial real estate developer, advancing to the position of assistant vice-president before leaving to start Manhattan Beach Bagel Co. At Tishman, I worked on the completion of one million square feet of new commercial development in Orange County and San Diego.

My duties included negotiating ground leases, commercial office leases, and many other service and consulting agreements. My responsibilities included oversight of a construction department that performed over four million dollars a year in tenant improvement projects in a 2.5 million square foot development.

At Tishman, I gained vast experience in the successful implementation of large construction projects that included the master planning of over 5 million square feet of commercial development.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: I currently serve as a City council member in Hermosa Beach. Prior to city council, I sat on the Public Works Commission. I have thoroughly enjoyed my council and commission work and I feel that my work has had a positive impact on our community.

I am the Treasurer of the Hermosa Arts Foundation (formerly the Hermosa Beach Community Center Foundation) which brought the Hermosa Playhouse to Hermosa Beach. I have been treasurer for 6 years.

Addtionally, I am also on the Business Advisory Board of Social Vocational Services (SVS) and the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation.

I am a strong supporter of area business/education partnerships. Through my business and my personal efforts, I provide over $15,000 per year in in-kind and cash donations to local schools. For the last several years I have been a featured speaker on entrepreneurial businesses at Career Day at Mira Costa High and Redondo Union High Schools.

I have helped raise funds for the following organizations: Hermosa Beach Education Foundation, Heal the Bay, VOICE, Hermosa Women's Club, Soroptimist International, Arts Manhattan, Hermosa Beach Volleyball League, People's First, Manhattan Beach Education Foundation, United Airlines Charities, The American Diabetes Association, Mira Costa Yearbook, Relay for Life, as well as numerous other community and religious organizations.
