Community First.

When I first moved to Hermosa Beach with my wife, Christine, and our three-year-old daughter, like you, I did so because I loved the community. That was 1979, and much has changed since then. That little girl is now a glorious young woman and her little brother that followed is now a man. While the City's distinct charm remains, it too has changed. And today, the qualities that make Hermosa Beach such a wonderful place to live, work, recreate and raise a family are now being challenged as never before.

To solve our problems we must be equal to the challenge. We must be united as a community.

The social fabric of a great community is based upon the belief that each generation has an obligation to provide for the next; that each member matters. If we accept this tenet, then we must accept that positive community growth cannot occur without an equal commitment to community renewal. It is not enough to simply pass the test of funding education. We must also provide the best materials, engaging challenges, equal opportunities, and ample fun for every student. Environmental considerations must be entrenched in our economic policymaking, simply because the toll for doing less will ultimately be paid for by our children.

It is true that we have built a prosperous City. But it is now vital to bring together the shared energy, ideals and objectives that will not only protect the things we value in our City, but will elevate Hermosa Beach into being the best community it can possibly be.

Working together, we can change things. As Councilmember, I will honor your trust in me by always placing the long term interest of our community first.
