COMMUNITY

Lomita is the best little city in the South Bay: safe, clean, with a strong community spirit, attractive parks, popular recreational programs, and a responsive city government.

Lomita is a great community for all ages - from growing up to growing old.

As your City Councilmember, maintaining and strengthening our hometown as a superior place to live, work, and play will continue to be my primary focus.

SENIORS

Lomita's Senior Citizens play an essential role in our families, our neighborhoods, and our city affairs. They deserve to be able to live in a safe and clean community and have their concerns heard.

As your City Councilmember, I will continue to work closely with Seniors to incorporate their input into city decision-making.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT --- BUSINESS

Lomita's success as a residential community is greatly dependent on its having a healthy and robust business environment.

As your City Councilmember, I will concentrate my efforts on working for long term planned growth in the Lomita business district that

  • ensures keeping our small-town atmosphere while working to build a vibrant business environment
  • improves the economic climate for existing and new businesses
  • focuses on the recruitment of businesses that serve our residents and offer long-term promise as contributors to our city's economic development
  • includes a city-wide process to ensure the broadest possible citizen involvement in planning for business area improvements

As your City Councilmember, I will also continue to focus on Lomita's Economic Development by maintaining my active support of the Chamber of Commerce, encouraging Lomita Presents and other city events that showcase Lomita business products and services, and continuing to budget for city staff and programs that encourage strong and healthy businesses to move to our city.

WHILE ON CITY COUNCIL,

I have spearheaded or strongly supported many city initiatives including the following -

  • budgeting $870,000 this year for street maintenance, upgrades, and long-term Pavement Management Plan
  • Lomita Railroad Museum - landscaping of the new Irene Lewis Park - planning for museum expansion and new home for Lomita Historical Society - other parks and recreation programs available to Lomitans of all ages
  • inauguration of Lomita Presents, an ongoing series of family oriented community events
  • maintaining contract levels with Sheriff's Department to ensure a safe and secure city for Lomita residents and business owners
  • completing the Lomita Emergency Management Plan that ensures integration of Lomita's emergency response with that of surrounding cities, county, and state - constructing Lomita Emergency Operations Center in City Hall
  • establishing a new computer center for Seniors in Lomita Manor - setting up a single-point-of-contact at City Hall to locate information on support services
  • Lomita City government reorganization that emphasizes economic development and more efficient service to city businesses and residents
  • maintaining a balanced budget and healthy reserve over a period of rapidly increasing costs and critically short state funding
