EXPERIENCE

THE NEW TEACHER PROJECT, Los Angeles, CA. January 2000 to Present

Partner. Senior manager of the southwest region of the U.S. for national non-profit consulting firm. Oversee the design and implementation of new teacher recruitment and training initiatives for urban school districts. Involved in all aspects of program quality and service delivery with clients including the Los Angeles Unified School District, the Oakland Unified School District, and the Texas Education Agency. Work directly with school district superintendents, school boards, and district management teams to ensure success of multi-million dollar contracts.

AUGUSTA MAYO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, Compton Unified School District, Compton, CA. Fall 1997 to 2000

Bilingual Teacher. Taught second grade in low-income public school as part of Teach For America national corps. Designed a bilingual and English language development (ELD) instructional program and drove significant gains in student achievement. Initiated, coordinated and supervised school-wide events. Served on school's Leadership Team as ELD specialist reporting to supervisory committee on curricular programs and student achievement.

WHITE HOUSE INITIATIVE ON EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE FOR HISPANIC AMERICANS, U.S. Department of Education, Washington, DC., Summer, 1995

Administrative Analyst. Conducted extensive research on issues concerning Hispanics in education. Participated in organization of public hearing entitled "Attaining Excellence in Education Today." Served as liaison to the Office of Legislative Affairs tracking legislation on appropriations from the House Subcommittee on Human Resources, Labor, and Education.
