As a member of the Humboldt Bay District Board I'll strive to bring real balance to the commercial, recreational and conservation elements of the Bay. I'll take the District's public trust responsibility seriously and work hard to balance the budget so the District can provide needed services.

§ Estuarine and Watershed Stewardship

I believe the District should actively support appropriate land management and planning that will improve the entire Humboldt Bay watershed and benefit regional freshwater and tideland restoration efforts.

§ Bay Trail System and Recreational Access

The District needs to be a collaborative leader in the planning and implementation of a Bay perimeter and water trail system that will provide better access to and appreciation of our Bay. I will actively promote the development of facilities to access the bay for recreational uses such as fishing, boating and windsurfing.

§ Economic Development and Land use

I will support harbor related industries and commercial activities that are sustainable and fit our environment and our quality of life. I will encourage the District to work with the County and bay cities to develop progressive land use policies that can provide diverse array of opportunities into the future.

§ Local Control

I will strongly oppose any project proposed by the federal government that does not take into account our local decision making process. With the passing of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission now has final authority regarding the sighting of any onshore LNG Facility.

§ Fisheries and Aquaculture

I will encourage facilities and research that will diversify and enhance our productive mariculture and fishing industries.

§ Research and Study

The District needs to play a central role in promoting and managing research efforts in and around the Bay. I will support the development of an estuarine research center and encourage studies that can improve water quality and fisheries and wildlife habitat enhancement.

§ Wiyot Tribe

I believe it is time for the District to recognize the Wiyot people's strong connection to the entire bay and work with them to promote and protect their cultural values.

§ Management Plan

The recently drafted Humboldt Bay Management Plan is the "blue print" for the future of our Bay. I will ensure that the plan balances the needs of its many stakeholders.

§ Public Trust

I support the public's right to use and enjoy Humboldt Bay's shore, waters and resources as protected by the Public Trust Doctrine. I will work to implement both policy and projects that will enhance public access to the Bay.
