Candidate Statement

I am a local business owner, married father of three, community volunteer and lifelong Humboldt County resident. I coach local youth sports and volunteer at my children's school weekly. As a member of the Rotary Club of Arcata Sunrise, I chaired numerous committees and served as President.

I have served on the Board of Directors for several local organizations including the HSU Advancement Foundation. Through ongoing childhood involvement in 4-H and work in the family business, I developed a strong work ethic and an understanding of the value of extracurricular activities.

I see that by strengthening extracurricular programs we can keep our young adults actively engaged. I support enhancing academic programs for students entering the workforce as well as students going on to college.

As a local business owner with extensive experience in budgeting and planning, I support sound business practices within the District so that the education of today does not occur at the expense of tomorrow.

If elected I pledge to dedicate myself to student achievement, I will listen to parents and community members, and I will use my commitment to the community to make the education of our young adults the very best that it can be.

The Importance of Extracurricular Activities

I hope to work with the district to ensure that a wide variety of extracurricular activities are available to students. I would work to provide options for a wide range of interests so that all students have the opportunity to be challenged mentally and physically beyond their regular curriculum. Extracurricular activities benefit the students' total well-being and provide alternatives to drugs, alcohol, and other negative behavioral choices.
