Education Not Indoctrination

By Shane Brinton

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Northern Humboldt Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Let's keep our schools safe, inviting, and effective.
Our schools must be providing students with the education they need to compete in today's constantly shifting job market, not indoctrinating them.

Because of this I believe that military recruiters should have no place on our campuses. We need to be educating the future doctors and teachers of America, not sending them to die in Iraq or some future quagmire. I know that this is a controversial issue and needs to be addressed in a tactful manner, but it also has to be addressed now.

Similarly, I hold that sex-education has to be about making sure young people have the information they need to make responsible choices. We have to defend our sex-ed programs from those who wish to push an "abstinence only" agenda. When we are talking about issues of sexual safety - life and death issues - there is no place for special agendas. Our young people need the facts, not lectures on morality.

Today's students are tomorrow's leaders... let's make sure they're ready.
