Why the City Clerk must remain neutral and independent of any political influence:

The City Clerk is the city's Election Official responsible for all aspects of the election process. Those who oversee preparations for an election, including the training of poll workers and testing of machines, should be schooled in administration, not politics. The City Clerk should have one obligation only, and that is to the electorate as a whole, not to partisan interests. I have no political affiliations, past or present, and have not accepted endorsements from any political parties or organizations.

Why the City Clerk must have a strong background in management and administration:

The Glendale City Clerk manages a staff of twelve professional employees, a $1 million dollar annual budget and all daily office operations. As the director of a fully staffed department with wide ranging responsibilities, the City Clerk should have a broad base of experience in overall office management. I have 15 years of professional law office management experience in operations, budgeting, financial analysis, records management, professional staff management and technology. I am currently responsible for the finances of two regional law offices in Northern and Southern California where I work with over 100 attorneys and administrative managers and manage professional staff employees in both locations.

Why the City Clerk must demonstrate leadership:

The City Clerk must be a leader in order to motivate and guide the office staff to realize their full professional potential. I have always led by example. I demand excellence in my own work product and in the way I respond to both my internal and external customers. I have always encouraged my staff to aspire to the same professional goals with positive reinforcement and constructive professional feedback. I have always led them to understand the importance of their individual contributions as an individual element of a larger whole.

Why the City Clerk must have a strong financial background:

The City Clerk's annual budget hovers around one million dollars. It is crucial that the City Clerk have the professional tools necessary to construct and manage not only an annual operating budget but also an election budget every two years. I have 15 years of financial management experience and currently prepare and manage an $11 million dollar local operating budget for an international law firm with over $600 million in annual revenues.
