Changes to the Glendale Election System

By Gary J. Sysock

Candidate for City Clerk; City of Glendale

This information is provided by the candidate
I think that the city election system should be reviewed to determine how to make it more effective. Cities around Glendale are experimenting with All-Mail-In voting and Electronic Voting machines. Preparation of ballots, access to multi-lingual polling sites and distribution of mail-in ballots have been issues in recent elections.
I would work within Glendale to create a needs assessment that identifies processes needing change. I would then use that information to build a plan that works in conjunction with Glendale residents, the State, the County and neighboring cities. The County holds many elections in Glendale and is building an electronic precinct infrastructure. I think that it is important for Glendale to capitalize on the changes brought by other organizations and use them to leverage our future.

Technology is not a solution for every problem, but its use in today's government infrastructure is vital. It is the only way to handle the unpredictable fluctuations in the business of government. What if, for the next city election, there was a 100% eligible voter turn out. It's one thing to talk about increased voter turn out, but think of the impact. It would be my legal responsibility to meet that demand and I don't feel that the current process could handle it. I think I bring a unique set of talents to the City Clerks office that can bring stability to the voting future of Glendale.
