CHUCK SAMBAR

Education, students, teaching and writing have been at the center of Chuck Sambar's life. He was a child when his family came to America to live in freedom and peace, get an education, build a future and live a happy and productive life. Sambar credits his success and that of his family to the education he received and to the opportunities that this land of freedom and opportunity offers all of its citizens through its public schools.

Sambar attended the Glendale schools, earned Associate, Bachelor and Master degrees and did graduate work at USC. He served as a teacher and administrator for 35 years and he was elected two terms as President of the Teachers Association. In 1997, he was elected to the Glendale Board of Education and he was reelected for a second term in 2001.

He served two terms as President of the Glendale Board of Education and two years as President of the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce. Chuck is an elected member of the Los Angeles County Schools Board of Trustees Association, and he served two terms on the Advisory Board of the Los Angeles County School for the Arts. He serves on a number of community boards and organizations.

Sambar is a California State Academic Auditor and a Los Angeles County Board of Education Professional Expert and grant writer for High Priority and Program Improvement Schools. During the past two CSBA Annual Conferences, he made presentations that dealt with student achievement and what school board members should ask their staff when student achievement is low or stagnant.

For five years, Sambar has been named among the top 25 most influential citizens by the Glendale News Press. His writings and commentaries have been published in numerous newspapers, magazines, books and journals and are archived under http://www.sambarpress.com.

He and his deceased wife, Mary, had three sons. Two are Naval Academy graduates and the third is a computer scientist. Sambar is married to Dr. Lois Neil, a retired teacher, administrator and university professor. Both have grandchildren in public schools.
