Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Simi Valley Unified School District

Debbie Sandland was born in Simi Valley in 1953. Like her parents, she graduated from Simi Valley High School -- in fact, her family has lived in Simi Valley since 1887.

Debbie earned an Associate's Degree from Moorpark College, an Associate's Degree in Nursing from the University of the State of New York, and is a registered nurse. She is also graduate of Leadership Simi Valley 1995

She is the mother of two sons, has been a member of several PTAs and PTSAs over the years, and understands the complexities of life for families today. Debbie has served the students, parents, and teachers of Simi Valley for two separate terms as School Board Member: from 1992 to 1996 and from 2000 to now.

During her eight years on the school board, she has helped the District achieve many goals and meet many challenges, including the very difficult challenge of maintaining critical programs in the face of a $9.4 billion reduction in state funding of education.

She is proud of the accomplishments she has achieved as a School Board Member, passionate about public education, and determined to help our District meet even more of our goals in the next four years.

In the last four years, Debbie has served as a Board representative on the following committees:

• Gang Task Force
• Tri-Agency Committee, which is comprised of the City of Simi Valley, Simi Valley Unified School District, and the Park District
• City Ad-Hoc Committee
• Simi Valley Education Foundation
