Partnership Team For Strong Schools

By Rob Collins

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Simi Valley Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Our schools in Simi Valley are on the right track increasing accountability, tightening discipline, encouraging parental involvement, and teaching students the basic skills they need to compete in the 21st Century and to prepare for college or career. However, to keep out schools on track in Simi Valley, we also need partnerships. We need a school board, which will work with teachers and parents. Teachers need more influence over school policies because they cannot help improve schools if they do not have a seat at the table where important decisions are made. They, in partnership with parents, need more influence over spending priorities, academic curriculum, standards, and discipline. Respecting teachers, and promoting a partnership between the board, students, parents, and teachers will take the politics out of the classroom, and allow the school board to get back to the basics of improving our schools. We need board members who will promote cooperation, to meet the challenges ahead. Electing the partnership team will keep our schools on the right track.
