HEALTH CARE. Fought to preserve affordable health care for the children of working families when the Governor proposed to limit Healthy Families and deny health coverage to hundreds of thousands of children

Wrote AB 2909 to ensure that deaf and hard of hearing students are taught by qualified teachers at an early age
 
Fought for access to health care services for working families by supporting Natividad Medical Hospital and other health care centers
  EDUCATION. Wrote AB 1631 to make sure that our local schools received their fair share for school construction funds  
Supported AB1113 funding to ensure all students have the same educational opportunities

Personally fought to maintain access to higher education by creating a scholarship fund for local students
  HOUSING. As Chair of the Local Government Committee, Simón authored bills to address our housing shortage and skyrocketing housing costs  
Wrote AB32 to improve the production of farmworker housing and allow for innovative partnerships between agriculture and the non-profit housing communities

Authored innovative legislation to give local communities a new incentive to build housing that fits their needs
 
Wrote legislation to increase down payment assistance for first-time home buyers

TRANSPORTATION. Named the 2003 Legislator of the Year by the California Transit Association for his leadership in addressing transportation issues  

Authored AB813 and AB 839, two laws that helped transit agencies maintain their services while keeping fares low

CHILDCARE. Supported legislation to increase childcare funding throughout the state  

Saved a local childcare agency which was on the verge of closing its doors to hundreds of low-income children and their families
  PUBLIC SAFETY. Authored AB 493 which prohibited the unfair practice of sending Sexually Violent Predators to unsuspecting communities

Supported local law enforcement by protecting funding for police and firefighters
 
Co-authored the expansion of Megan's Law and supported the creation of the Amber Alert system for missing children
