Questions & Answers

1. What can be done to ensure that California gets its fair share of federal resources?

I have always enjoyed a strong working relationship with my colleagues in Congress and officals at the local and state government levels. Working with these individuals helps ensure that California continues to receive its fair share of federal resources and that these resources are allocated toward top priority items that will be of most benefit to the community. I will continue working to ensure that a clear and open line of communication exists between the federal, state and local levels of government.

2. What are your foreign policy priorities for the United States?

Terrorism is America's greatest threat in the post Cold War era. The United States must remained committed to winning the war on terrorism and it is imperative that we maintain a foreign policy of pursuing terrorists wherever they may be and holding foreign governments accountable for haboring or supporting these individuals.

Additionally, a free and democratic Iraq is invaluable to the security of the United States. Helping establish a democratic government in Iraq denies opportunities to terrorists to recruit and train new recruits and provides our country with an ally in the war on terrorism in a very important region of the world.

3. What are your priorities for the federal budget?

America's war on terrorism requires a commitment toward maintaining a strong military. I will continue working to increase funding for our nation's armed services thereby ensuring that our troops have the equipment, ammunition and intelligence assets necessary to keep America safe.

I also believe that maintaining a strong international border is beneficial to the U.S., especially to border regions such as San Diego. I will continue working to ensure that our border enforcement agencies are provided with the necessary resources that will allow them to apprehend individuals who are attempting, or have entered, the U.S. illegally.

Finally, the best way to keep our country prosperous is to allow working Americans to keep more of the money they earn, not force them to send it to Washington. By lowering taxes and reducing unnecessary government spending, I believe we can continue to stimulate the economy, provide increased opportunities for small businesses and help more Americans reach their financial goals.
