Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Joe Coto

Candidate for
Member of the State Assembly; District 23

This information is provided by the candidate

For the last 14 years I have served as superintendent of schools for East Side Union High School District in San Jose. During my tenure, graduation rates increased, truancy declined and test scores improved.

I am running for State Assembly to influence policy and budget decisions, to bring more resources to local schools and to improve the quality of education for San Jose's children. Now, with the state budget crisis and our new governor in office, we need an experienced educator looking out for our community's children and families.

I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the San Jose-Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce and the South Bay Labor Council. With the support of businesses and workers I will create an environment where businesses can thrive and workers can enjoy stable, productive employment. I am proud to have the support of San Jose's police, firefighters and teachers. By working together we can ensure that our city has safe neighborhoods, good schools and responsive emergency services.

I am grateful to have the support of Congressmembers Mike Honda and Zoe Logren, San Jose Mayors Ron Gonzales and Susan Hammer, State Senator John Vasconcellos, Assemblyman Manny Diaz, San Jose City Councilmembers Cindy Chavez, Dave Cortese, Nora Campos, Ken Yeager, Chuck Reed, County Supervisor Blanca Alvarado and many others. I will work with these elected officials to make smart policy decisions and ensure that residents receive top quality services from every level of government.
