DISTRICT VOTING

By Lee Pierce

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Santa Rosa

This information is provided by the candidate
I Do Not support district voting - it's a bad idea!
Should council members be elected by district, rather than city-wide? No. We are not Los Angeles, San Jose' or Sacramento. Our Urban Growth Boundaries will serve to keep us from becoming like these cities wherein districts might be appropriate. Santa Rosa City Councilmembers should continue to be elected by the citizens at-large. Furthermore, Councilmembers should be elected based upon their demonstrated awareness, understanding of, and ability to contribute toward solutions to citywide issues; their perceived ability to work with six other individuals on The Council (teamplayer) and finally, their demonstrated leadership ability - not the location or address of their home. The goal should be to unify neighborhoods, not to separate and divide them.
