Why Should You Vote for Me?

By Geoffrey Mac Millan

Candidate for Board Member, 4 Year; Harmony Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate
I am a candidate for Harmony Union School Board Trustee and am writing to ask for your support and vote. This letter will tell you a little about me and my family and why I would become an excellent member of the School Board.

Why do I want to be a Member of the Harmony School Board?

My partner and I and our 5 and 7 years-old sons moved to Occidental two years ago. I want to increase my service to the community and I want to provide the best for my sons. These goals along with my personality, skills and experiences can best be realized as a member of the School Board.

What do School Board Members do?

School Board Members are responsible for establishing a vision for the schools and creating an efficient organizational structure for the Superintendent and administrators to manage the schools and for the teachers and students to teach and learn. School Board Members are responsible for policy, monitoring and adjusting finances, managing the collective bargaining process and serving as a judicial and appeals body when conflicts go unresolved. Further, School Board Members have a symbolic role; they represent the emotional and relational fabric of our community shown by their ability to work as a team, to listen, and to represent ALL community interests not excluding the businesses and individuals without children in school.

Why should You Vote for Me as a Member of the Harmony Union School Board?

I am first and foremost a father and am very proud of my family and community. I am an attorney and an active member of the State Bar of California but my work is with my partner where we own a small business located in Sebastopol employing about 20 persons. Herein, my skills and experience in negotiating, budgeting, operating within a budget and strategic planning are regularly tested in competitive environments. Having a son with special educational needs has caused me to have a particularly keen eye toward the needs of all children, regardless of abilities and backgrounds. Our non-traditional family has taught me the necessity of showing respectable behavior to all persons and giving importance to all points of view. Very importantly, I have a strong desire to work toward a stronger relationship between the School District and the public it serves.

I appreciate any support and most importantly your vote but I also invite your input and questions. I can be contacted at geoff@etanate.us.

Again, thank you for your vote.
