My goals and philosophy

By Jake Mackenzie

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Rohnert Park

This information is provided by the candidate
Why run for a third time to serve on a council whose majority serves the monied interests of developers, garbage haulers, land brokers and the public safety bargaining unit?
I have served two terms on the Rohnert Park City Council, through some very tumultuous times. I am running again to continue to serve the citizens of RP as an independent voice on the Council, and to make sure that our new General Plan, the City's "blueprint for growth", is properly implemented.

Why vote for me again? I have proven my independence:

  • voted against salary and benefit increases the City cannot afford
  • supported the right of citizens to vote on the Casino "MOU"
  • have never taken a dime from anyone for my election campaigns. By paying for my own campaigns, I am not influenced by donors and can be truly independent in thought and deed
  • have repeatedly tried to get the City Council to approve campaign finance reform, and will continue to do so. "Big Money" should not control Rohnert Park!

What have I ever done for RP? I have worked hard to represent ALL the citizens of our City, and the causes I believe in.
  • I championed the Urban Growth Boundary around RP, both before and after holding office.
  • I have devoted serious time to complex transportation issues while serving as Chair of the Sonoma Co. Transportation Authority and on the Board of Directors of SMART (Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit)
  • I have been a strong "pro-environmental" voice while serving as the Chair of the Sonoma Co. Agricultural Preservation and Open Space Advisory Committee.
  • I "show up" and support our community events and local organizations and businesses. For more information, please see my webpage at http://www.jakemackenzie.org Thank you.
