I believe that building a multi-story parking garage on Mendocino Avenue is the right thing to do.I believe the construction of the multi-story parking garage on Mendocino Avenue is necessary. Parking has been a serious problem of the Santa Rosa campus for over thirty years. The current parking configuration is not adequate for the student enrollment today and definitely not into the future. SRJC serves a very mobile student population. Many students juggle work and family obligations with school and must use an individual form of transportation so that a minimal amount of time is spent traveling. In addition to building a parking garage, that will net SRJC approximately 630 new spaces, we must continue to stress the need for alternative forms of transportation. We must work toward an improved bus system in Sonoma County, expanded bicycle routes, and possibly a rail system, but the need for parking on the Santa Rosa campus will not go away. The design of the approved structure will compliment the existing architecture of the campus and extensive landscaping improvements will enhance the area around the garage. |
