In 2000 I made the voter four specific promises. I've kept my word.

My promises were as follows:

1. TO REPRESENT THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY I accomplished this by working hard with community leaders in all sectors of Santa Rosa. I have put emphasis on troubled neighborhoods, makeing them safer for families and businesses. At the same time, I have partnered with citizens from all walks of life to make sure their needs are being considered.

2. TO SUPPORT A SUSTAINABLE RATE OF GROWTH Working with the other members of the City Council, we have successfully maintained a less than 1.2% growth rate over the last four years. At the same time I have consistently supported affordable projects and attached housing affordable to moderate incomes. All these will help ensure that our children and grandchildren will be able to live here.

3. TO KEEP PUBLIC SAFETY AT THE FOREFRONT OF OUR EFFORTS I have worked diligently on the Mayor's Gang Task Force to curb gang violence and prevent our young people from joining gangs. I have supported and advocated for our Neighborhood Revitalization Program, an innovative approach to improving neighborhoods in decline. I have consistently supported our police and fire personnel.

4. TO BALANCE THE NEEDS OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE ECONOMY I have consistently supported our economic development efforts to bring revenue and badly needed jobs into Santa Rosa. At the same time I have led a county-wide effort to curb greenhouse gas emissions and promote renewable sources of energy. I also helped initiate a green building program and encouraged sustainable construction projects.

I pledge once again to protecting our quality of life and preserving Santa Rosa as a family town, safe and open, both for us and future generations.

I respectfully ask for your continued support.
